SUNY Veteran Internship Program A Closer Look with Michael Eighmey

This is our third session in the Student Success Lunch & Learn series for Military Affiliated Students. These sessions aim to highlight the wide range of resources available to veteran and military-affiliated students, to help students succeed throughout their academic journey. They are beneficial whether you’re new to the university or you’ve been here for a while. Through a series of questions, you’ll learn about our current SUNY Veteran Intern, Michael, and about his unique journey that has led him to where he is today as a graduate student and the SUNY Veteran intern. You will also learn about the SUNY Veteran Internship, and how it might benefit you. 

In 2023, SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. announced the Veterans Enrollment and Support Internship Program, an initiative designed to provide paid internship opportunities for SUNY student veterans. The program aims to support military-connected individuals by encouraging enrollment, fostering academic success, and enhancing engagement within the SUNY community. Since the program’s launch, SUNY Empire has awarded internships to three student participants. The program has also expanded its eligibility criteria to include spouses and dependent children of veterans, broadening its impact on military-connected families.
