Rev. J.D. Jackson, Jr., senior pastor at the United Church of Pittsford, discusses the history of the Frederick Douglass Monument. The event was held Thursday, June 6, from 11 a.m. to noon.
The monument was built in 1899 and was the first of its kind in the nation to recognize an African American. In 2019, Jackson helped lead the effort to move the monument to the Frederick Douglass Memorial Plaza in Rochester. Jackson will share his vision of “turning the dirt” to keep the Douglas legacy alive in Rochester, the nation, and globally.
