Bio:
Avian Perez, LMSW, serves as the Program Director at VISIONS Services for the Blind in New York City, where she leads the Caregiver Program. In this role, she supports both caregivers who are blind or visually impaired and those caring for individuals with vision loss or disabilities. Her work focuses on helping caregivers reduce stress by connecting them with resources, respite opportunities, and practical support that makes day-to-day life more manageable.
Avian brings a diverse professional background that spans foster care, juvenile detention, homeless youth services, and union construction. These experiences have given her a broad understanding of systemic barriers, resilience, and the importance of accessible, person-centered care. At VISIONS, she draws on both her clinical training and lived experience to build trust with caregivers, staff, and participants alike—ensuring the program is both strategic and deeply personal.
Her leadership is defined by empathy, collaboration, and a
hands-on approach. Avian is committed to fostering spaces where caregivers feel
seen, heard, and supported, recognizing the vital role they play in the
well-being of their loved ones. She also takes a creative approach to caregiver
engagement, coordinating monthly arts and crafts projects and other activities
that provide both relaxation and connection.
Guided by her personal connection to the mission, Avian hopes to one day pursue
CASAC certification to expand her ability to support individuals impacted by
substance use. Her journey reflects resilience, purpose, and a dedication to
building systems of care that honor both strength and humanity.
