Bio: Jason Torreano, '14 is a nonprofit leader, educator, and social enterprise strategist with a background in journalism, higher education, and international community development. He is the founder of Inkululeko, a nonprofit organization supporting youth in Makhanda, South Africa through education, workforce development, and entrepreneurship initiatives. After leading the organization for approximately 14 years, he transitioned it to South African leadership.
Torreano currently serves as Director of Social Enterprise Strategy and Development at St. John’s Community Services, where he helps develop sustainable programs for individuals with disabilities and those experiencing homelessness. He is also a faculty member at Montclair State University / Bloomfield College, where he teaches journalism and media communications.
Prior to his nonprofit work, Torreano worked in broadcast journalism as a TV anchor and reporter. He holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from SUNY Brockport and a master’s degree in nonprofit management from Empire State University. He was recognized with Empire State University’s 2025 Community Impact Alumni Award for his humanitarian and nonprofit leadership.
