As a young man in the 1960s, David became involved with the Black Arts Movement and was active in the civil rights movement. He was a founding member of the Spirit House Movers and Players – a theater company that presented dramatic and poetic works around the country.
He now spends his time fulfilling his passion for the arts, and has brought truly powerful stories to the stage. He is an actor, director and producer, and his performances are always met with rave reviews. In recent years, his troupes have told the stories of James Baldwin and Frederick Douglas in his pursuit of truth in history. He finds Douglass’ words are particularly inspiring and relevant and his message of dignity, justice, and freedom rings throughout the ages.
